The rugs are soft to walk on or touch if one hangs them on the wall. The wool is excellent and the silk brings an outstanding shift of light to the lines and shapes. The rugs are tufted by hand, and tufted in different directions following the brush and lines in the actual painting. They are are very tightly tifted, which brings a fantastic tactile quality to the rug, impossible not to touch.

ART MEETS RUG

By Shirin Ghoreishi

. In my loves livingroom there was hanging a painting I felt so drawn too. I felt such a calm watching the painting yet it also triggerd a soft passionate feeling in me, it felt like a meeting with the unexplainable,I could feel it burning in my fingers on the thought to be able to invite myself the project to transform it into a rug. And so it started.

The painting was made by Anders Österlin. Born 1926 and passed away 2011. He was starting to draw at a very young age and would continue to do so through his whole life. Apart from the innovative artist that he was together with C.O Hulten and Max Walter Svanberg he was starting the group ‘Imaginisterna’ in 1945 and took part of the art movement Cobra in the 1950s. He was not only a painter but also a illustrator and a commercial artist.

Painting is like solving a problem. When the painting is fisnished, the problem is solved’

Anders Österlin Lund 1970

‘One of the allurements of art is not knowing where one will end up’

Lasse Söderberg ur Anders Österlin Malmö Konsthall

Anders Österlin´s son Pontus tells me his father often starting painting not knowing what he wanted as an outcome, working with lines and shapes, colours meeting in layers. It was later in the process that he started to feel what felt right for him and what did not. One can nearly say he was painting subconsciously and in the end got into a more conscious flow. What fascinates me too is his playfulness with geometrical forms, how they find their ways into each other, a meeting of contrasts that comes together very harmonically.

To transform an artists work into another form is of course a very sensitive matter and needs to be done with outmost care. In process I have taken the freedom to work with different levels in the wool as well as silk to bring forward layers, shimmeringing and semi-transparency. I have a constant close collaboration with the craftsman before and during the process of transforming an artwork into a rug - exchanging thoughts and ideas.

Translating the art of Anders Österlin into a rug continues to be a delightful work for me. I feel outmost grateful for the collaboration with Anders Österlin´s sons, who have encouraged the project and offered me great support and guidance along the way

  • Red and Blue is the first one out in the series of Hearthproject. The designer is the founder of Hearthproject Shirin Ghoreishi. By each motive there will be no more then 5 peaces made. Some of the motives there will be even less as one or two. All are signed and numbered and non looks completly the same as they are handmade through the whole process of making.

Hilma Af Klint

I first discovered Hilma Af Klints work randomly reading an article about her upcoming exhibition while I was living in China, it was right before they were having her exhibition in New York at Guggenheim 2019, my dear friend was there and I suggested him to go for a visit. He was blown away and so was I. I was hit by a flash of love, like a touch of transcendence.  What I think is so astonishing with the art of Hilma Af Klint is the broadness in the audience that she reaches, all ages and heritages. There is something so attractive in her art, it reaches into one’s centre core of being. I noticed how the motives makes people most of all so excited and happy. One can just sit on a chair and watch them hour by hour and forget about time. That is truly the power of an artist.
